To Hock From Mitzi

Michael P....

It's been fun trying to channel my inner Hock.

As we returned from the cruise, I received a text from Aunt Dixie asking if there was any way I would be interested in putting together a Kids Are Music group?  They wanted to see if their grandkids would perform before they bought them uniforms for DC in the summer.  I hesitated thinking of all the reasons I shouldn't do it.  Then I thought of Hock, I thought of him tearing up as he watched his kids perform patriotic songs on the ship.

I realized that Hock loves KAM as long as him or his wife don't have to be in charge.  He loves watching his kids perform as long as someone else is in charge.  So in that moment, I decided to be that someone else for someone else in behalf of Hock!  I threw together an email and a few texts and voila! I had 30 kids in the group!

We practiced 5 times for an hour each time.  It was a little crazy and gave me a whole new respect for the directors!

We did 3 shows.  One at the South Towne Mall and 2 at different retirement homes.  I was so proud of all of them!  I think they did a pretty awesome job!

This past week I had another opportunity to think of Hock as I served.  On Friday morning I woke up to the horrible news that a 3 year old in our ward been in a tragic accident.  As her life hung in the balance, I thought about how terrified her parents must be. I thought of how terrifying it is to know that your child may not be there to watch open presents at Christmas.  I once again thought of Hock and the terrifying experience he had to experience as a father.

I headed over to the neighbor's house with a few other women.  The family was coming home in 2 hours from the hospital b/c they had a birthday party for their 13 year old son.  The nanny let us in and we helped her clean the house (including completely removing everything from the fridge to clean and organize it, decorate the home for the birthday party and put together furniture for the boys room as that was his birthday present.  For his birthday, they had bought him a Tv that needed mounting, 2 end tables, a new bed, a chest of drawers, and an L-shaped desk...all that needed assembly! Think Ikea at it's worst.  We knew that would be the last thing they would want to do!  Although it took us longer then the 2 hours, I'm happy to report we were able to assemble all the furniture before the son got home!

Love you Hock!  It was fun to think of you throughout the year!
